Isn’t this little guy so cute! Introducing Charlotte the baby French Bulldog who was just rescued from a bad home and adopted by Ariel. Ariel and Doctor Amy think that she is about 4 or 5 months old but they aren’t totally sure. She has clearly had a rough life already in her young age, she was always looking for attention and a little nervous at first.
After allowing her to get a little comfortable and relaxed we moved her into the photography studio to make some of her first professional photographs. She was most comfortable when she was with her Mum, but we did manage to get some on her own. She is such a cute looking French Bulldog and has the potential to be quite the character. All in all she had a busy and exciting first day in her new life with visits to the vets, Mum’s office and the doggie lounge to buy food and was soon fast asleep snoring on her Mum’s lap.

I was just backing up some recent photography and this shot of Lisa and Jake made me smile. This hound is the terror of his neighborhood who will chase every cat and most dogs, he will pull Lisa’s father over when he is being walked, and as I discovered last year he also kills raccoons. All in all he has quite the history of being a big bad boy.
So when he came around recently I was ready for that big hound personality but I was a little surprised at first. Lisa and I had discussed trying to do some more arty photographs and I had a simple lighting setup to see what we could get with him. Well, as soon as the flash went off Jake darted behind his mother and basically hid his face. We laughed it off at first, but then after the second and third flash it became obvious that he wasn’t happy at all. Turns out he just doesn’t like flash lights. So we removed all the backdrops and lights and used the natural light coming through the window and then went out on the terrace.
Working with him always brings the unexpected for sure!

One question that often gets asked by new clients is ‘can I bring my dog or cat?” and my typical answer is yes. I’m a huge lover of animals be it on safari or the two cats, Jones and Jester, that have adopted me and I totally understand folks that want to have their pets photograph made to savor their memory for the future. So if you have a pet that is special to you just ask and lets try and figure it out.
This evening I’m finishing up some prints for Lisa for some holiday gifts that she ordered. This shot was taken on a very sunny October day with her lovely hound Jake. After discovering that Jake didn’t react too well to the studio lights we decided to take it outside to the terrace. I’ve worked with Jake three times over the last couple of years and each session is very eventful and fun. One of the things with working with animals you are always going to get the unexpected and Jake manages to keep things interesting for sure! He’s a total cutie for sure.
